Students in pedal prix design comp; racing kicks off

As our pedal prix teams gear up for the first race of the year – this weekend in Mount Gambier – our Primary boys have been challenged to put their own spin on the sport.

Students from the three Year 5/6 classes will come up with designs that will adorn the school’s three pedal prix vehicles throughout the 2024 season.

Director of Development Patrick Kelly, who runs Blackfriars’ pedal prix program, said the competition was a good way to engage the younger students in the sport.

“This year, each of the three year 5/6 classes are going to have the task of designing the stickers and logos and everything that goes on the trikes,” Mr Kelly told the boys.

“Last year, when we first ran this competition, there was one bike. This year, each class will have a bike to work on. It’s very exciting.”

The Years 5/6 boys had a session with teacher George Elmassih to understand how the school’s Roland vinyl sticker printer worked and what designs were best suited – and possible – for the pedal prix trikes.

Meanwhile, our Hound #1 team will compete in Round 1 of the Australian HPV Super Series tomorrow (15 March) in Mount Gambier.

The boys will be up against teams from South Australia and interstate in the eight-hour race, at McNamara Park.

“We are thrilled to kick off the 2024 UniSA Australian HPV Super Series in Mount Gambier,” Series CEO Marcus Lacey said.

“This event represents the culmination of months of hard work and preparation for our teams.

“We’re looking forward to seeing their dedication and passion on display as they compete in what promises to be another unforgettable season.”
