2022 Head Prefect, Deputy announced

When Daniel Heath arrived at Blackfriars as a Year 8 student in 2018, he knew he one day wanted to be Head Prefect. In 2022, that dream becomes a reality.

Principal Simon Cobiac this week announced Daniel as the school’s next Head Prefect. Nicholas “Nico” Cacayorin has been named Deputy Head Prefect.

Daniel said becoming Head Prefect was an “honour”.

“I’m over the moon,” he said.

“It’s going to be a challenge, of course, but I am very, very excited to face that. I’ve got a great group of blokes around me who are going to be helping me out, as well as the entire Year 12 peer group, so it’s going to be excellent.”

He wanted to be an “inclusive” leader.

“I’d like to be very in and around everyone … but trying to lead by example,” he said.

He and fellow 2022 Prefect Finn Hudson already had plans for an Enterprise Day, “as well as continuing the excellent work of the 2021 Prefects”.

“At my primary school … I was head of the SRC and I always wanted to do some kind of leadership here and I feel absolutely honoured to do so,” he said.

Mr Cobiac said Daniel and Nico were standout choices for the roles.

“They are outstanding young men who have lived histories of leading by personal example and generosity throughout their journeys at Blackfriars,” Mr Cobiac said.

“Their appointments have been endorsed and supported by their peer Prefects, House Captains and the staff of Blackfriars.

“I am confident that Daniel and Nicholas have the personal qualities and respect of the community to lead and inspire our students to embrace the four pillars of Study, Prayer, Community and Service, being the life and essence of our Dominican education.

“I thank them for accepting the mantle of leadership and wish them every success and blessing for the year ahead.”
