Blackfriars students honoured at annual podcasting awards

Blackfriars students have picked up two gongs at the annual Arch D Radio & Podcasting Awards.

Year 7 students Daniel Seal and Andros Lual won Podcast of the Year for their work on The Sky Walkers podcast, produced last year while they were at St Gabriel’s School.

“I love being with people and making fun things together,” Daniel said of working on the podcast, which discussed the importance of valuing relationships.

Year 11 students Hudson Cosgrove and Harry Boyd-Turner took out the “Best Student Voice” award for their collaboration with the podcast team at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) College.

The award-winning podcast discussed the students’ experiences of single-sex education.

Harry, who also presented an award during the online ceremony, said the episode with the OLSH students was a highlight of his time working on Blackfriars’ The Torch podcast.

“We’re so happy to be recognised with this award,” Harry said. “I love being able to create a show that best reflects our school.”

Hudson said the award was great acknowledgement of the work he and Harry put into Blackfriars’ regular podcast, The Torch.

“It’s nice to know that what we’re doing is worthy of this recognition,” he said.

“Producing The Torch is really good fun and more people should definitely get involved.”

The boys are planning a second podcast collaboration with OLSH in the near future.
