Our 2021 award winners and a message to students

Well done to all the Blackfriars students who have demonstrated significant commitment to the four pillars of Dominican life – prayer, study, community and service – throughout 2021.

Speaking at one of the final assemblies for the school year, Principal Simon Cobiac said as well as the award recipients, he wanted to acknowledge all students for their “participation throughout the year, in whatever way you have been involved in the life of the school”.

“In the classroom, in study, in prayer, in service to the community and in our community. Many of you have been very heavily involved in co-curricular activities,” Mr Cobiac said.

“So, I’d like to stress two things; the first is participation and being involved. It is absolutely critical to life. And the second is the effort you put into something. You can have all the talent in the world, all the ability in the world, which comes to naught unless you have the appropriate attitude and put in the effort to your study, to your personal life, to your friendships and to your co-curricular life.

“So well done to everyone. When you think about what you’ve done this year, well done to you. For those of you who may have fallen short of your own standards, your own personal standards … there is always next year. There is always the chance in life of redemption, of putting yourself forward for the following year.”

Wishing all our students a happy, successful and fun 2022.
