It’s scholarship season at Blackfriars

Applications are now open for Blackfriars’ 2024 scholarship program.

Scholarships across a range of curriculum areas are available – for current and future students.

“Blackfriars is committed to providing a well-rounded education – academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually,” the school’s Director of Development, Patrick Kelly, said.

“The school’s scholarship program reflects this, with a range of scholarship opportunities available that relate to these qualities, either individually or in combination.”

Among the scholarships on offer are multiple Ax Academy Scholarships.

Blackfriars’ Ax Academy is a learning-enrichment program, designed for boys in Years 7 to 11 who are looking to extend their academic program.

The Ax Academy program enhances the standard secondary school curriculum and includes a broad range of problem-solving and project-based activities in the STEM disciplines.

It encourages highly motivated students to extend themselves, collaborate with like-minded students and to excel. It also includes mentoring by industry experts.

Mr Kelly said the program enabled students to develop and apply needed skills.

“The real-life scenarios presented equip students for the current and emerging employment opportunities in South Australia,” he said.

Each Ax Academy Scholarship, for students in Years 7 and 8 in 2024, provides a 50% reduction of the recipient’s tuition fees for their remaining years of secondary education at Blackfriars. Multiple scholarships are on offer.

STEM occupations – those using science, technology, engineering and maths skills – are expected to have the most employment growth in the next few years.

The Federal Government’s National Skills Commission’s latest five-year projections anticipate significant growth in STEM jobs of 12.9%. Non-STEM jobs are expected to grow at half the pace at 6.2%.

Other scholarships on offer range from general excellence, to music, to the more specialised Dac Lo scholarship.

“The Dac Lo Scholarship encourages students from the Vietnamese community to remain active in the preservation of their cultural heritage.”

Blackfriars Priory School is dedicated to the holistic development of young men. In 2023, it is proud to celebrate its 70th anniversary.

“Blackfriars is an outstanding school and can offer so much in terms of boys’ education,” Mr Kelly said.

“We strongly encourage prospective families to take a look at the scholarship offerings and discover the benefits of Blackfriars for your son.”

Applications for 2024 scholarships close on 30 April.
