Get to know your 2024 Prefects

They are the incoming Year 12 students tasked with helping lead our school in 2024. But how well do you know our new Prefects? Never fear! We’ve asked them all the big (and some not-so-big) questions.

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started at Blackfriars in 2019 as a Year 7. I have always felt a connection to the Blackfriars community, as when I was born my brother was attending Blackfriars and my dad coaching water polo.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I have been able to enjoy a wide variety of experiences with a community of friends and educators who truly care about me, enabling me to learn and grow. It’s like a brotherhood.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership, to me, means taking responsibility and initiative, to influence and inspire others to support our community and individuals where it is most needed.

Favourite subject? PE, but I also really enjoy Biology.

What are your post-school plans? I’d like to peruse some sort of engineering and possibly travel around Australia with my boat and go fishing.

What’s your go-to canteen order? It’s got to be a choccy milk with a chicken schnitzel burger.

Will Campbell

William Campbell

When did you start at Blackfriars? I joined the Blackfriars community in 2019 as a Year 7.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I love the sense of mateship, the comradery between the students and how everyone looks out for each other.

What does leadership mean to you? To me, being a leader means being able to foster collaboration and ignite ideas, to try and hear those who need it most and lending a helping hand to those in need.

Favourite subject? Changes from day to day, at the moment probably Biology or Drama. I enjoy all the subjects, honestly.

What are your post-school plans? I’m definitely planning on going to uni, I’m just not sure what course yet, though. I’m also planning on heading overseas to England for a little bit.

Port or Crows? Or neither? Crows, all the way! Not by choice, though. My dad would kill me if I went for Port.

What’s your go-to canteen order? Chicken schnitzel burger with a Milo cup or a drink. If they’re out of chicken schnitzel burgers, I’ll go for the chicken roll instead.

Dominic Canil

Dominic Canil

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started Blackfriars in 2019, in Year 7. Mr Leditschke was my key teacher and most of my closest friends were in that class.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I like the strong community that the school has between students and teachers alike. I also like how all the teachers and students make learning here fun.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership means being a good role model for younger students to instil in them the proper values and skills needed to be good person.

Favourite subject? My favourite subjects are Biology and Chemistry as I find the topics very interesting.

What are your post-school plans? After school I plan to enter university to study for a job in the medical field.

Port or Crows? Or neither? Definitely Port.

What’s your go-to canteen order? Everest ice-cream, 100%. I need at least one a week.

Matthew Jones

Matthew Jones

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started at Blackfriars in Year 5, 2017. My first teacher was Mrs Sullivan. In that year, I was also taught by Mr Brealey.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I love the opportunities being a student at Blackfriars makes available to me. From volleyball tournaments to math quiz nights to swimming carnivals, I feel there is always something going on and always something unique and exciting to participate in.

What does leadership mean to you? I believe leadership is about leading by example, while at the same time working to uplift others through communal engagement and group activities.

Favourite subject? I would say Chemistry or Japanese. I enjoy being forced to think outside the box to solve challenges.

What are your post-school plans? I am planning to study chemistry at the University of Adelaide. I am also considering taking a gap year to travel.

What’s your go-to canteen order? I don’t go often, but I am fond of the honey chicken with fried rice.

Nam Le

Nam Le

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started at Blackfriars in 2019 as a Year 7 student. Mr Meus was my first teacher.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? Being a student at Blackfriars, I enjoy interacting with my peers and learning with my friends. I’m not only bound to my just my year level, but I am able to mix and engage with other year levels.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership is the ability to lead and guide others. It’s the ability to help guide others in a direction and bring out the best in them.

Favourite subject? My favourite subject is Media Arts. Being able to film and edit short films is something that I quite enjoy.

What are your post-school plans? After school, I am thinking of possibly travelling to interstate or somewhere in Asia. I also plan to study film & media or IT at uni.

Port or Crows? Or neither? I support both SA teams.

What’s your go-to canteen order? Chicken burger and caramel ice cream. Definitely the best-value items you can get.

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started at Blackfriars in 2019 as a Year 7.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I love the Blackfriars community and the learning environment that has been created by great teachers and staff. I also love that I get to hang out with my mates every day and exchange some casual banter while we learn.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership in my eyes is being like a beacon to which others can look up to and follow to become a better version of themselves.

Favourite subject? My favourite is Specialist Maths as it challenges me to learn new concepts.

What are your post-school plans? I’m looking into mechanical engineering but some sort of freelance design field may be an option as well.

Port or Crows? Or neither? I don’t really follow footy, but Crows are clearly the better side.

What’s your go-to canteen order? I love a good grilled chicken and rice with some sort of chocolate bar.

Daniel Mazzarolo

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started my journey at Blackfriars in 2017 in Year 5. It was a new experience to me, but I have enjoyed being here ever since.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I enjoy the school community and being a part of it. I love the positive and engaging learning with some of the teachers where I am able to contribute in class discussion. The friendships I’ve made through school mean have helped me throughout and I hope they can last for years to come.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership, to me, means supporting peers around me and leading by example to represent the school community. Leadership is displayed through serving the school community being supportive, encouraging, motivation and inspiring to others.

Favourite subject? Specialist Maths, currently.

What are your post-school plans? At the moment, I don’t have a specific idea on what I want to do, but I’m looking to do further study at university.

What’s your go-to canteen order? Whatever the bank can afford.

Patrick Moore

Patrick Moore

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started at Blackfriars in 2019 as a Year 7 and found the transition from being one of oldest kids at primary to suddenly being thrown back in the deep end quite scary. But getting to know everyone and making mates along the way helped a lot.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I love the inclusive atmosphere. It feels like a big family where everyone is accepted and valued, which makes a sense of belonging and support.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership to me means setting a positive example and being a role model for others. It is demonstrating integrity, honesty, inspiring others to follow suit.

Favourite subject? My favourite subject has to be PE as it allows me to explore a variety of sports and improve my skills while emphasising teamwork.

What are your post-school plans? My post-school plans are currently up in the air, with what I would like to do changing every second. I have a vague idea about what I want to do, but nothing definitive yet, though.

Port or Crows? Or neither? Neither. I support the Brown and Gold of Hawthorn.

What’s your go-to canteen order? Difficult question, I would have to go with the roast pork roll, though.

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started at Blackfriars in Year 7 in 2019.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I love being able to spend time with my mates while I am learning in a place that has a great community that encourages growth in myself and others.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership to me means being able to influence people in a positive way. I also believe that leadership is done by example, not by telling people what to do.

Favourite subject? I don’t have a favourite subject, however, I like doing art/design subjects because I have always found them more interesting to work on.

What are your post-school plans? My post-school plans is getting into the advertising industry or into the design industry. This is changing lots, so who knows. It might be something else in a few months.

What’s your go-to canteen order? My go-to is honey soy chicken chips with Lipton Iced Tea raspberry flavour or chicken schnitzel burger.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I really enjoy the community here at Blackfriars. The friendships I have made with both teachers and students make studying at Blackfriars easier and more enjoyable.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership, to me, is about being a good role model by setting a good example to everyone as well as inspiring those around you.

Favourite subject? My favourite subject is definitely Chemistry.

What are your post-school plans? After school, I’m looking into getting into law school at either University of New South Wales or the University of South Australia.

Max Sullivan

Maxwell Sullivan

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started my adventures here at Blackfriars in 2018 as a year 6 in Mr Niedzwiecki’s class. At first, the experience of being at a new school was very daunting but I settled in remarkably quickly due to the great sense of community this school has to offer.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I love the sense of community at Blackfriars and the range of opportunities on offer to students.

What does leadership mean to you? To me, leadership means giving back to the community by setting an example for my peers to follow. But also taking on their ideas and thoughts to make this school the best it can possibly be.

Favourite subject? My favourite subject is Architecture. I love the sense of expression and functionality that you can explore with some of the newest technologies such as Unreal Engine 5 and Virtual Reality.

What are your post-school plans? In the future, I have considered pursuing Business or Architecture as a career. I would also love to travel and maybe combine this with my future studies.

Port or Crows? Or neither? Neither, never really been a massive AFL supporter, despite my dad being the biggest Crows fan.

What’s your go-to canteen order? This has to be the toughest question in this interview, but it must be a cheeseburger and mango iced tea.

Michael Ward

When did you start at Blackfriars? I started at Blackfriars in 2019 as a Year 7 student. My previous school was much smaller, so I found Blackfriars to be very intimidating to start.

What do you love about being a student at Blackfriars? I love the community; I love how every day I get to chill with my best mates. I also love how the school is focused on students’ future and feels like a constant progression towards life outside of school.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership, for me, is exemplified through service. I believe the best leaders lead by serving the people. This is what I’ll be striving for and hopefully achieving next year.

Favourite subject? My favourite subject is Biology as it relates to my future career aspirations in medicine, and I love the depth of the topic.

What are your post-school plans? Not sure yet, but I am very excited for post-school life.

What’s your go-to canteen order? Chicken burger with an iced coffee and an Oreo Dream Bar.
