Students nominated for podcasting awards

Blackfriars students have earned five nominations across four categories – including Podcaster of the Year – in the annual Arch D Radio Podcasting Awards.

“With so many schools and students involved in radio and podcasting in the last 12 months, I’d like to congratulate your students on making it onto the very short nomination list,” said James Meston, from Arch D Radio & Podcasting.

“The awards are a chance to celebrate all the amazing achievements of our student producers throughout the year in categories such as Most Creative Podcast, Episode of the Year … and Podcaster of the Year.”

Blackfriars Communications Officer Shannon Caton, who coordinates the podcasting team alongside old scholar and former Arch D award winner Hudson Cosgrove (BPS’23), said it had been a great year for The Torch. She was pleased to see so many students in the running for the Arch D awards.

“We are really pleased with what we have been able to achieve in podcasting this year,” Ms Caton said. “We have had our biggest podcasting team ever and it’s been great to see the boys’ growth throughout the year.”

Since its launch in February 2021, The Torch has covered everything from teacher profiles, Intercol, cultural celebrations, community events, Generations in Jazz, pedal prix, esports and more.

A new episode is due later this week. Keep an eye on our socials or on Spotify.

Students interested in being part of the podcasting team in 2025 can register their interest during the Secondary Co-Curricular Expo, on Thursday, 7 November.
