At Blackfriars, your son will stand confidently with his peers as he learns about the importance of Prayer, Study, Community and Service in all aspects of life.

Middle Years

The Blackfriars Middle Years program caters to the diverse needs of boys in this transitional period of life. Our contemporary curriculum for Years 7 to 9 is based on the Australian Curriculum whereby teachers identify the needs of each student and create individual programs that encourage development, particularly in literacy and numeracy. Students are motivated to strive for success through personal inquiry, discovery and self-direction.

The school’s Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) policy allows students to select a personal device that best suits their learning style. This is used as a fully integrated learning tool across all curriculum areas.

The search for identity and meaning is paramount during the middle years of a boy’s schooling. Our Pastoral Care program, Religious Education and development camps, along with other extra-curricular activities, provide each boy with the knowledge and skills he needs to confidently and successfully participate in a rapidly changing world.

Throughout the middle years at Blackfriars, boys have opportunities for further learning and engagement through comprehensive electives and specialist programs and can immerse themselves in the full range of co-curricular activities on offer.

Senior Secondary

The Senior Secondary years are where students are typically presented with their most challenging, yet memorable and rewarding years of schooling. It is also the time when lifelong friendships are forged and pathways towards employment or tertiary study are laid with students taking control of their future and striving to achieve individual goals.

Our teachers work alongside students, helping refine the skills they need to successfully engage in an ever-changing world.

The Blackfriars Senior School provides an education that is well-rounded academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Senior School students completing the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) can opt for a fully academic program on the pathway to achieving an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and tertiary studies, a program rich in Vocational Education & Training (VET) leading directly to employment, or a mixture of these based on the student’s individual strengths and interests.

Regardless of a young man’s pathway, we encourage the development of individual talents and abilities through an intensive pastoral and learning support programme. This approach provides students with the direction and confidence to take their achievements to new heights while contributing to the world in which they live.

We encourage boys in the Senior School to make the most of the broad range of co-curricular opportunities available to them and to aspire to positions of leadership among their peers.
